Summer is back and in full force with this special-release cider.   Back by high demand, this year's Cranberry Coconut Apple Cider was made with East Kelowna Jonagold apples and Summerland Macintosh apples.   These two dessert-type apples lead towards the lighter, fruiter sider of cider, and gave us a great base to pair with some fresh, BC cranberries.  We squeezed the cranberries ourselves and added the fresh juice to the cider, and steeped it all with some freshly shaved Coconut for three days.   The result is this mouth-watering summer affair, which begs to be cracked open on one of the many beaches found around Lake Okanagan.

Most of BC’s cranberries are found around Pitt Meadows, and Maple Ridge BC, even having their own hiking and biking trail known as “Cranberry Trail” which you can follow the cranberry harvest all throughout the towns.   All summer long Cranberries grow in ‘bogs’, being soaked in wetlands which allows this tart, yet strikingly juicy fruit to grow in its very unusual habitat.    Cranberries are native to BC and have been used for centuries by the First Nations as food, dyes, and medicines.  They were traded to the Hudson’s Bay Company for goods, and at one point during the gold rush, they were worth more than gold.
